Today, many people travelling abroad opt to hire a people carrier as a preferred method of getting around. Depending on the volume of baggage you need to transport, along with the number of people in your party, people carriers can range from compact 5+2 seaters, right up to 12 seater minivans and beyond. Remember, fuel prices are on the increase so you may do well to pick up a diesel seven seater.
To guarantee the best possible price when you’re hiring a minivan, get organised and book at least a few months in advance. Many websites allow you to use a booking engine where you can input your travel dates and other information once and get all the available prices displayed, which will save you time and money. The devil is in the detail, so as you do your research make sure that you read all the small print. Different companies all have different policies on fuel, so make sure you do not get caught for two tanks of fuel as many people have done in the past.
Make sure you understand what the excess is on your people carrier hire and consider taking out insurance on this aspect as well. There are all sorts of shapes and sizes of people carriers available and we will give some information on different types of vehicle below.
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso.
The Citroen C4 Grand Picasso has a reputation for comfort, and it’s a good looking and roomy 7 seater hire. The Grand Picasso is a great looking MPV and packs a lot of nice touches in, like most Citroens today.
The seats fold away brilliantly giving a massive amount of storage space if required. This The softer suspension means that the Citroen isn’t quite as good to drive as some of its rivals and you will notice the body roll when cornering. Having got around to suspension issue though, hiring a Citreon Grand Picasso 7 seater is pretty much a joy.
Hire this people carrier if you are going to be doing a lot of miles – it is probably the most comfortable MPV on the market today. Some clever boffin has invented a fantastic seat mechanism that converts the seats in almost any formation you want. In terms of internal room, there’s decent legroom and headroom, even with the seven seats in use, but you may require a roof box if you have 7 adults with luggage as boot space will be tight.
You can achieve excellent fuel economy with the Grand Picasso, particularly with the new 1.6 e-HDI model which returns 57mpg. The Grand Picasso is a practical, reliable and comfortable 7 seater which can be hired just about everywhere – we think it’s an excellent choice.
Ford Galaxy – 7 Seater People Carrier.
If all you’re looking for is a comfortable, luxurious, reliable seven seater car hire, then look no farther than the Ford Galaxy. The Galaxy looks a bit old-fashioned on the outside but inside the cabin is a revelation, and it’s a joy to drive.. There are loads of options when it comes to folding the seats down but with all the seats up seven adults can be transported in great style. It may not be the best looking MPV you can hire but don’t be fooled, this is a great people carrier to drive.
The steering is fantastic and cornering is superb. The level of kit inside the Galaxy is top-notch with electric everything and tinted glass and leather in many models. Fuel economy is outstanding in the diesel versions with around 45 mpg achievable – the petrol engines aren’t as good so we recommend diesel every time.
Reliability is pretty much guaranteed with the Galaxy although some of the early models were not so good. Boot space is small when you are carrying 7 adults, so if you have plenty of luggage you will almost certainly want to hire a roof box as well. Overall, the Ford Galaxy is a really decent people carrier and should be near the top of anyone’s list when looking to hire an MPV.
Volkswagen Touran – The Best People Carrier?
The VW Touran may not be the most attractive of all the people carriers, but it’s box shape makes it one of the most practical compact MPVs you can hire. The interior is quiet and refined and there’s a choice of petrol or diesesl engines, including an great BlueMotion option that is very cheap to run. The diesel engines are slightly noisier, but deliver far better fuel economy and are well worth considering.
Over the years Volkswagen have tweaked the internal layout of the Touran and the space and practicality are amazing. The third row of seats fold down to create additional luggage room and there are around 39 storage points inside the car.
